SFF PARTNER PROFILE: Bookstore1, Home of Saturday's FRANK LANGELLA BOOK SIGNING!

dropped namesFrank Langella's Dropped Names: Famous Men and Women as I Knew Them is a fantastic and fun memoir that indeed drops the names (and delivers amazingly juicy dish) on celebrities ranging from Rita Hayworth, Elizabeth Taylor and Bette Davis to Noel Coward, George C. Scott and Roger Vadim (and dozens and dozens more). On Saturday, April 14th from 11:00 AM to Noon, you can meet Mr. Langella and have him sign a copy of his book at Bookstore1! (Please Note: Only copies of the book purchased from Bookstore1 will be signed.)

And if that's not enough Frank Langella for you (and how could it be, the man is endlessly fascinating) he will be booking it (see what I did there?) right from his signing to Sarasota High School for his In Conversation chat at 1:00 PM. That Inside The Actor's Studio-style chat will be moderated by New York Magazine and NPR's Fresh Air contributor David Edelstein!

robotAnd one last plug (gotta do it) be sure to see our Opening Night Film, the moving and wonderful Robot and Frank on Friday, April 13th at 7:00 PM at the illustrious Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall! Frank Langella is a consummate actor at the height of his power and he shines brighter than ever in Robot & Frank. This Oscar-nominated and Tony award-winning actor was Dracula, Sherlock Holmes and Richard Nixon. Remember what happened with Christopher Plummer and Beginners after last year's SFF? I'll betcha the same thing happens in 2013 for Mr. Langella and Robot & Frank! The film also stars Susan Sarandon, Liv Tyler and James Marden. Director  Jake Schrier and Frank Langella will be on hand for the screening.

All rightee, enough of that. We're here to honor our friends at Bookstore1!

bs1Bookstore1 is our #1 literary hangout
, a store featuring a stupendous collection of titles with something extraordinary waiting to be found for every kind of reader. Last year Bookstore1 hosted a sensational poetry slam featuring the stars of the SFF documentary To Be Heard and some truly outstanding young local poets. This year they are welcoming a star of screen and stage who is now a literary lion!

We spoke with Georgia Court, owner of Bookstore1 (pictured here with events manager Elsie Souza) to give you a feeling for the flair and style of our favorite bookstore, Bookstore1 Sarasota!

THE INSIDER:  When did you open Bookstore1 in Sarasota?

GEORGIA COURT: We opened March 1st, 2011.

THE INSIDER: Why did you choose Main Street in Sarasota as your location?

GEORGIA COURT: Our location, 1359 Main Street, is in the heart of the arts and entertainment district. It's a natural place for readers to visit when they're in town enjoying other forms of the arts and are also in the mood for the literary arts.

THE INSIDER: Tell me three things you want our readers to know about Bookstore1:

GEORGIA COURT: We're a full-service bookstore open seven days a week. We hold lots and lots of events: in fact, we've become quite a literary community center. And we not only have a bricks and mortar store, we also have an online store where customers can purchase physical books as well as e-books.

THE INSIDER: Georgia, tell us a little about yourself and your love of books.

GEORGIA COURT: I've had several careers, but they all have found a way to come around to writing and books. I was a newspaper columnist for a few years; I published two books; and my last job was teaching English composition at the University of Cincinnati.

THE INSIDER: Tell us about your experiences with the film festival:

bs1 readingGEORGIA COURT: We had a great experience last year with the cast and directors of the youthFEST movie To Be Heard when they came into the store to perform slam poetry; a wonderful, memorable evening.

THE INSIDER: Why do you feel everyone should come out and get a signed copy of Frank Langella's Dropped Names?

GEORGIA COURT: It's bound to be a juicy read. And who wouldn't want to meet Frank Langella? He'll be signing books in the store at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 14th.
