Young Filmmakers' Showcase has expanded to include a groundbreaking new program in screenwriting that creates a cycle of film production in the youth community of Sarasota and Manatee counties. The Sarasota Film Festival has partnered with Phoenix Academy to produce screenplays with their students, in an effort to encourage personal expression through writing. With the goal to create a filmable script, students focus on story development and screenplay formatting.
The Kids Jury is a group of aspiring film critics of high school age. Instructed on how to critique film by local reviewers, they preview the Festival's international selection of short films and select their choice for the Best Family Short Film Award.
Visiting filmmakers from all over the world travel to area high schools and colleges and hold discussions about the process of filmmaking. If you are interested in having your school participate in this program, please contact Colin Panetta, Outreach Coordinator at colin@sarasotafilmfestival.com.
