Descriptions of SFF's Outreach and Education programs for 2010 are listed below. Please stay tuned for announcements on the 2011 program offerings!   There is no participation fee for these programs and space is limited.  Applications are always considered on a rolling admission basis.

FOR STUDENTS

> Reel Life Studio Sarasota: Dogme 95 Challenge
Students are introduced to the Dogme 95 filmmaking style through lectures, workshops, and screenings and will then have one week to complete their own 5-minute Dogme 95 film.  Films will screen as part of the Hollywood Nights Student Cinema Showcase followed by an awards ceremony. Students in grades 9-12 may apply.

> Kids Reel Life Studio: Animation Station
Students are introduced to the art of stop-motion animation filmmaking as they adapt a screenplay (from Florida Studio Theatre's Write-A-Play program), build sets, construct characters, and make their own short film.

FOR TEACHERS

> Junior Jury @ New Gate School
New Gate School Junior Jury members  will screen the short film programs for this year's youthFEST while learning how to analyze the film, think critically about their opinions, and understand aspects of film production and theory.  The Jury announces the award for Best youthFEST FILM and hosts a screening of the winning film.

> Classroom Critic
Movies introduce students to the art of filmmaking and emphasize cultural and media literacy. Pre-festival, classes will screen a short film selected for the festival's youthFEST and learn about the basics of film analysis and critical review. Selected reviews are published in The Observer

> Youth Screenwriters Circle

The Youth Screenwriters Circle invites aspiring high school student writers into the film community.  Students learn the in-and-outs of screenwriting with a month-long workshop program and leave with a completed short screenplay.

> Youth Screenwriting Workshop
If screenwriting is already a part of your curriculum, your class may benefit from this one-day, in class workshop where students are introduced to various techniques of critiquing, improving, and rewriting their existing screenplays-in-progress.  Students will learn the basics of screenplay composition, methods of constructive critique, and strategies for preparing and fine-tuning a final draft.

> Kids VIP Trip
Kids VIP Trip facilitates free weekday morning field trips to the theatre where classes will watch a selected feature film or short film program.  The rest of the day is spent immersed in culture at the Embracing Our Differences exhibit.  Film programs and curriculum are available for Grades 1-12.
