For the second consecutive year, The Sarasota Film Festival is pleased to feature NYU @ SFF, a program of films and festival curation presented in association with NYU Tisch School of the Arts. Working with student filmmakers, producers, curators, professors and alumni to create a

program of films and events at this year’s festival, The SFF is thrilled to provide a showcase for NYU Tisch filmmakers to share their work, ideas and vision with our community.

The SFF offers special thanks to Robert Warren for his continued support and leadership on this project.

The Ringling College of Art and Design

In partnership with The Ringling College of Art and Design, The Sarasota Film Festival presents our 3rd Annual Student Trailer Contest. This year's contest was designed to have students conduct interviews with film lovers to discover what it is about the movies that inspires them. All eight finalists will be screened throughout this year's festival, but the film gathering the most votes in this contest earns the honor of screening on Opening Night at the Van Wezel on Friday, April 5, 2013 and before the Closing Night Film. Help us celebrate the wonderful creative work of these students by voting for your favorite, and be sure to look for these trailers throughout The 15th Annual Sarasota Film Festival.

The Sarasota Film Festival is proud to support Florida filmmakers by giving their work a platform and an opportunity to shine on the big screen. These films range from shorts to features, documentaries to fiction, all of them created by artists living and working in the State of Florida. Join us in celebrating these exciting new films, made right here in the Sunshine State.

Nearly three years after his unexpected passing, Terry Porter’s work remains a vital part of our community’s film culture. To many, he was known as the intensely knowledgeable store manager at Video Renaissance, Sarasota’s only independent film rental shop, but loyal patrons and friends also got to know the depth of his passion for film. He had an eye for the underdog, for all things strange, new and wonderful. In honor of Terry’s work as a tireless advocate for emerging voices and cinematic expression, and for his tremendous friendship with The Sarasota Film Festival, we proud to present the third annual Terry Porter Visionary Award to COMPUTER CHESS, a film that captures Terry’s inquisitive spirit, energy and passion for new forms of cinema.
