IT HAS BEGUN! OPENING DAY AT SFF! SPOTLIGHT ON FILM LOVERS FORUM! FILMMAKER Q&AS! AND MORE!
The big day is here! In just a second we’re going to talk MOVIES MOVIES MOVIES! But first, tonight we have ROBOT & FRANK, our Opening Night Film at 7:00 PM starring FRANK LANGELLA (who will be in attendance with director Jake Schreier) PLUS our stupendous OPENING NIGHT PARTY at 9:00 PM! Both are at the always incredible VAN WEZEL PERFORMING ARTS CENTER! Woo-Hoo! Tomorrow Mr. Langella signs his flat-out fantastic memoir DROPPED NAMES: FAMOUS MEN AND WOMEN AS I KNEW THEM at 11:00 AM at BOOKSTORE1 on Main Street (only books purchased from Bookstore1 will be signed) and at 1:00 PM he will be at Sarasota High School for his sure-to-be riveting IN CONVERSATION moderated by New York Magazine and IN CONVERSATION moderated by New York Magazine and NPR’s Fresh Air contributor DAVID EDELSTEIN! (Click on any of those titles to buy tickets now! And if you are a theater enthusiast, you will definitely want to see Mr. Langella live. He's a three time Tony-Award winner!)
Now I’d like to shine a light on two incredible attractions that SFF offers on many of our films. First up, you may see the phrase FILMMAKERS IN ATTENDANCE in our flyers or Morning Buzz Newsletters (go to our home page and enter your e-mail and zip code under SFF News to subscribe). Here’s what that’s all about: We not only have big name film stars attend the festival, we also have dozens and dozens of amazing independent filmmakers come here to promote their screenings.
Think about that. When you come to one of our FILMMAKERS IN ATTENDANCE screenings, you’re not just buying a movie ticket and seeing a great film. You’re participating in what could be a once in a lifetime opportunity to see a film and then have the people who made the movie step out and talk about the film and discuss it with you. And in a lot of cases, you’ve probably already seen their other films. It’s an amazing experience and it’s all for the same price as any other SFF ticket!
Not long ago, SFF was the second film festival worldwide to screen LENA DUNHAM’S incredible TINY FURNITURE and Lena was here! Well, guess what? That film took the entertainment industry by storm, Judd Apatow (40 YEAR-OLD VIRGIN) called her, and this Sunday, HBO premieres their collaboration with the new series GIRLS which is earning rave reviews and is poised to become The Next Big Thing on everyone’s lips Monday morning.
That’s just one example of big time filmmakers of the future who we routinely spotlight at SFF, people you can see for the next week and a half at their Q&As!
On top of that, we like to keep the discussion going, so we also have our illustrious FILMMAKERS FORUM. That continues the discussion after the screening with sensational discussions moderated by local journalists and arts supporters and enthusiasts. Just look at this rundown and ask at our box office for the location of any FILMMAKERS FORUM discussion!
